swissnex India along with the Swiss Science and Technology Office (S&T) Singapore is organising a focus group discussion – sketching the Swiss, Indian and Singaporean perspectives – on urban planning, transportation policy and electric mobility 0n 23, October, 2020, 1.30pm to 3.00pm IST. The curated experts session will have on-board researchers and domain specialists from EPFL Lausanne, Singapore-ETH Centre, SUPSI Lugano, WRI India and swissnex India. 

The focus group discussion aims to understand the various approaches, planning principles and policies being utilised in these countries and explore synergistic opportunities. Surround yourself with top researchers, industry players and start-ups, coming together to explore collaboration opportunities and learning from individual country scenarios. We would be happy to facilitate and curate opportunities for collaboration between Switzerland and India/Singapore. 

Speakers

Dr. K.W. Axhausen is Professor of Transport Planning at ETH Zurich - the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich. Before that, he worked at the Leopold-Franzens Universität, Innsbruck, Imperial College London and the University of Oxford. He has been involved in the measurement and modelling of travel behaviour for the past 35 years. His current work focuses on the micro-simulation of daily travel behaviour and long-term mobility choices along with the evaluation of various transport projects.

Dr. Paolone received the M.Sc. (Hons.) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 1998 and 2002. His research interests focus on power systems with particular reference to real-time monitoring and operation aspects, power system protections, dynamics and transients. He has received numerous awards including the 2013 IEEE EMC Technical Achievement Award, two IEEE Transactions on EMC best paper awards and the Basil Papadias best paper award at the 2013 IEEE PowerTech. Dr. Paolone was the founder Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier journal Sustainable Energy, Grids and Networks.

Roman Rudel’s academic background is in Geography and in particular the complex relation between socio-economic development and the environment. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Fribourg (CH) for a thesis on the ecological transformation of the industrial society, has over 20 years of research experience in the field of technological and institutional innovations applied to the mobility and energy sector and was member of the first national action plan on sustainable development. Since 2008 he is head of the Institute for Applied Sustainability to the Build Environment at the University of Applied Sciences in Southern Switzerland with a strong focus in renewable energy production such as photovoltaics, energy efficiency in building, energy policy and behavioural changes.

Dr. Walawalkar is the President and MD of Customized Energy Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. and leads the Emerging Technologies practice for Customized Energy Solutions globally with focus on energy storage, renewables, demand response and smart grid technologies as well as international markets. He is also founder & President for India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA). He served as member of the Board of Directors of Energy Storage Association (ESA) in US during 2009-15 and was elected as Secretory in 2013. He was elected as Vice Chair for Global Energy Storage Alliance (GESA) in 2014.

Sudeept Maiti is a Senior Manager with the Sustainable Cities program at WRI India, responsible for leading the organization’s engagement with new mobility enterprises for urban transport. Having organised multiple innovation challenges, Sudeept has engaged with various accelerator programs and worked with over 200 mobility solutions. With professional experience that is at the intersection of sustainable transport, urban planning and urban design, his work also includes strategy planning and on-ground implementation for safe access and public space design, and transit-oriented development (TOD) for cities.

Laurence Glass-Haller is the Science Counsellor at the Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore where she promotes and strengthens bilateral cooperation between Singapore and Switzerland in the domains of education, research and innovation.

As the Renewable Energy & Urban Transport Specialist of the swissnex University Partnerships team, Cassius manages the academic programmes, programmes related to energy, E-mobility and the Science 4 Society focus area. He has managed market validation camps for Swiss start-ups and has coached Swiss mobility startups for their India market plans. He has had previous experience with organisations like the World Resources Institute (WRI) India, World Bank Institute (WBI) and Gateway House India.
