Catch the opening of Srinagar Biennale Basel comprising a series of eight performances by Swiss and Indian artists from Bangalore and Basel. Four Indian and four Swiss artists will perform to audiences in Bangalore and Basel respectively, connected by live video streaming of their performances across the countries.
The series is a platform for performers to showcase their art beyond the constraints of physical venue/space via live streaming, while documenting the same through cameras at the venue. Performance art consists of four elements: time, space, the performer’s body, and a relationship between audience and performer. Traditionally, the work is interdisciplinary, employing some other kind of visual art, video, sound, or props.
The event is designed to include the audience within its framework. The entry is free, however, one must sign an agreement form to allow the camera to be on them as well during the performances.
About Srinagar Biennale Basel:
Being the Swiss node of Srinagar Biennale International – a rhizomatic event spread across many cities, the curators of the Swiss node focus on contemporary performance art that includes a critical exploration of the virtual space as a performance venue. The Biennale takes place in two episodes in Basel, with the first being the opening followed by Swiss and Indian performances relayed between Basel and Bangalore.
