After the successful performance in swissnex San Francisco, the project team ‘Act Like You Mean It’ visited Bangalore in October 2012. The project team of ‘Act like you mean it’ consists of two Swiss researchers: a neurologist, Thomas Grunwald from the Swiss Epilepsy Centre (EPI) in Zurich and a dramaturge from the Zurich University of the Arts, Anton Rey. In a five-act ‘lecture-performance’, the two researchers explore whether, according to the brain, actors in a play express genuine emotion or just fake it. The team presented the ‘performance-lecture’ of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet ‘balcony scene’. They were assisted by two Bangalore-based professional actors: Parvathi Om as Juliet and Shrunga B V as Romeo. swissnex India facilitated three events – a scientific lecture at NCBS, a theatre workshop and the final lecture performance with local actors – which brought together more than 500 participants. All the events were greatly appreciated by the audience.
