swissnex India is pleased to announce the presence of Dr. Daniela Cerqui, senior lecturer at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland at the IIT Varanasi (BHU) technical festival Technex 2015
Talk at IIT Varanasi (BHU) on 28th February
Title: Is the cyborg the future of humankind? An anthropological approach
Technology is never neutral. There are social values embedded in it, as every technological device is the result of a design and building process through which social values are transmitted. The talk will focus on information technologies and show that they are deeply rooted in certain western values. It will be based on a case study: the research carried out by Prof Kevin Warwick at the University of Reading (UK). His work consists of the merging of humans and machines, which appears as the last step in reducing the delay in information access in a society obsessed with the idea of gaining time.
