Epilepsy is one of the common neurological disorders globally. Through this lecture series on “Demystifying Epilepsy: Current Treatment and Future Perspective”, we will learn the modern approach to diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy in India and Switzerland from two prominent epileptologists, Dr. PV Rai and Dr. P Satish Chandra.

This lecture series is brought in association with Indian Epilepsy Association (IEA). IEA has 25 branches all over India and its mission is to create awareness about epilepsy among the general public. The lectures will be conducted in a non-medical language.

Dr. PV Rai will present some insights on ‘Approach to Epilepsy treatment in Switzerland‘ touching upon Special Epilepsy Centers in Zurich, Tschugg/Bern, Lavigny/Vaud that follow the western European model. Dr. P Satish Chandra will talk about ‘Epilepsy : Indian Perspective‘ including certain geographically specific epilepsy syndromes in India and the effectiveness of research in the understanding of these seizures and management.



Dr PV Rai is a highly experienced Epileptologist with 47 years of dedicated work experience in reputed Neuro Centers. He is currently the elected president of Indian Epilepsy Association based in Bangalore. He was also the former Associate director for the Swiss Epilepsy Centre, Zurich - which has evolved itself into a center of national importance, is considered one of the six best such centers worldwide.

Dr. Satish Chandra’s work in the areas of epilepsy, neuro-epidemiology and neuro infections including neuro-AIDS has been recognised internationally. Among his prestigious fellowships, awards and publications are the ‘Asia Oceanian Outstanding Achievement Award in Epilepsy’ and the WHO-Fogarty-NIH sponsored ‘International Neuro-Sciences Fellowship’. He has been actively creating awareness about epilepsy and removing its associated stigma through the ‘Epilepsy Control Programme’ in India.
