Deep diving into India’s gaming scene
7 – 11 November 2017
The Nasscom Game Developer Conference 2017 (NGDC) was the largest gathering of game developers, publishers and decision makers of the ecosystem in India. This year, the conference, held at Hyderabad Internation Convention Center, had a participation of at least 3000 people and 150 speakers and included several product showcases and workshops. The conference attracted the who’s-who of India’s gaming industry to Hyderabad.
A Swiss gaming corner was set up at NGDC with a display of an array of exciting new games developed in Switzerland. A delegation of nine members from Switzerland attended the conference, comprising student game developers, faculty members of gaming and design schools and a startup. Switzerland’s expertise in game design and technology was demonstrated by inviting participants to try-out the games displayed at the gaming corner and through masterclasses and narrative sessions by the visiting Swiss delegation. This led to several meaningful discussions between the participants and the delegation. Many of the participants observed and commented on the variety of themes chosen by the Swiss game developers in creating their games. Concepts such as creating a garden, non-violent hacking to solve crimes or surfing on the moon are quite novel to the gaming community and were greatly appreciated by the conference participants. The masterclasses also created potential collaborative opportunities for the Swiss gamers in India.
Take a look at what transpired @NGDC2017
The members of the Swiss delegation found the experience of attending such a conference informative and enriching. Each game developer had a different agenda in coming to India. However, the collective take-away for the delegation from this visit was positive. swissnex India is hopeful that the Swiss game developers are able to leverage the connections made in India leading to exciting collaborations between Switzerland and India in gaming.
