Data Art Challenge: Winners Announced

To empower citizens to sense and make sense of their environment, we created with Data Canvas: Sense Your City, a world-wide DIY sensor network to measure pollution, dust, light, sound, temperature, and humidity.

We created an interactive map, opened the data, and asked you to use it to narrate a story about your city.

Over the course of four months across seven cities, we engaged 120,000 people, had over 700 participants in workshops and events, and 98 citizens assembled and deployed sensors on their houses, offices, universities and local hackerspaces.

340 people exchanged ideas online, and 34 final data art projects were submitted from 62 creators. And, now, we have six winners from five different countries.

With the help of an international jury, and our partners from Gray Area and Lift Conference, we reviewed many amazing submissions. Thanks to everybody who participated! Here are the winners of the Data Art Challenge:

Grand Prize
